The post is suitable for an individual who wishes to develop clinical skills by providing Phlebotomy Services. We are a large, busy unit that supports multiple specialties and works closely with Nursing and Medical Staff in Outpatients.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of safe and effective care at Freeman Hospital. Phlebotomists perform venepuncture and blood collection as requested by Medical and Nursing Staff, ensuring samples are labelled correctly and returned to the laboratory in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities
* Perform venepuncture blood collection as requested by medical/nursing staff.
* Ensure blood samples are labelled correctly in line with Trust recommendations.
* Deliver samples promptly to the lab.
What you need
As a phlebotomist, you will need to be caring, kind, and able to put patients at ease, especially those feeling anxious about giving blood. You should follow instructions and procedures, work well in a team, and also use your own initiative. You must be able to explain procedures to patients carefully and methodically.
Additional qualities
* Good organisational and observational skills.
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
When taking blood, you must be careful that you
* do not harm the patient
* do not disturb nursing care that the patient is receiving
* take the blood correctly so it can be used for testing
* label the samples carefully
* store the blood correctly
* deliver the samples promptly to the lab
Knowledge
* Basic IT skills.
* Basic understanding of safeguarding.
Skills
* Effective organisation and time‑management skills.
* Ability to work within a team and under own direction.
* Dexterity at a level to perform phlebotomy duties.
Experience
* Experience of planning, prioritising own and delegated tasks and activities.
* Experience of caring in a personal or professional setting.
Qualifications
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
