The Role
Our client, a highly regarded leader in fire protection and life safety engineering, is seeking an experienced Head of Proposals to oversee and deliver complex technical bids and tenders.
This position would suit a professional with a strong engineering background who enjoys managing proposal development from a technical and commercial perspective - ensuring solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with client requirements.
You'll lead the proposals function, coordinating input from estimating, design, and project delivery teams to ensure seamless handovers and exceptional standards of accuracy. In addition, you'll mentor a small internal team, promote technical excellence, and continuously refine proposal processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and lead the preparation of detailed tenders for fire protection and life safety systems
* Work with engineering and design teams to produce compliant, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions
* Review drawings, specifications, and scopes to identify risks, interfaces, and design opportunities
* Oversee document control and ensure all proposals meet industry and regulatory standards
* Support technical handovers to project teams to ensure smooth transitions into delivery
* Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the proposals and pre-construction team
* Continuously improve proposal templates, processes, and presentation standards
About You
* Proven experience in fire protection, life safety, or M&E engineering within proposals or estimating
* Deep understanding of fire detection, alarm, and integrated safety systems
* Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineer compliant, cost-effective solutions
* Experience within data centre project (advantageous)
* Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
* Collaborative, technically minded, and quality-focused
* Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar (preferred)
* Relevant fire safety or life systems accreditation's (FIA, LPCB, or equivalent) advantageous
* Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
The Package
* Salary: £70,000 - £80,000
* Bonus: Up to 10% annual company bonus (5% in June, 5% in December)
* Hybrid Working: 3 days in Reading office / 2 days from home
