Overview
This is an innovative post for an individual looking to develop their role in a dynamic Acute Medicine Unit. The service is delivered on the Emergency Floor, with a brand new stand-alone Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit due to open in July 2025 at St Richard's Hospital. We aim to provide first class patient care with rapid access to the right service at the right time and a strong commitment to patient care using a Patient First approach.
We recently recruited two new Acute Medical Consultants and are keen to expand our team to support future service development, including medical high care. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the model with the current team.
Main duties
The appointed consultant will be a committed team member striving to improve and deliver good patient care, and to respond to ongoing challenges in Acute Medicine. Full-time or part-time; includes participation in a 10 PA job plan.
Clinical duties include: post-take ward rounds, patient reviews (including review of results and consultation with patients and relatives), weekly evening consultant review shift, supporting junior doctors, facilitating discharges, service development, and clinical and managerial leadership.
This post involves working in an innovative Emergency Floor environment with flexibility and adaptability. Attendance at MDT meetings, x-ray discussions, and case presentations is expected. The rota is designed to balance clinical and non-clinical time to ensure continuity and logical allocation of roles during the day.
On Call Commitment: Currently integrated within the medical on-call rota, working 1 in 7 weekends with 1 in 14 on call. There are plans to move to an annualised rota to provide more flexible patterns in the near future.
