Medical Laboratory Assistant

Blood Sciences Specimen Reception at Cardiff and Vale UHB is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who shares the organisation's core values and beliefs to join the team. The successful candidate will be expected to join the 24/7 shift rota after suitable training.
The successful candidate will be required to work on either of the UHB sites, University Hospital Llandough or University Hospital of Wales.
Specimen Reception is a busy laboratory whose primary function is to support the Medical Biochemistry and Immunology/Haematology analytical laboratory services. The laboratory receives a range of specimens for a wide variety of clinical investigations.
Main duties of the job
* Receive, check and distribute samples for analysis.
* Conduct patient identity checks and inform supervisor of any discrepancies in labelling.
* Enter patient and sample details into the laboratory information system.
* Barcode specimens/forms and enrol requests for required tests.
* Perform pre‑analytical duties such as centrifugation and freezing.
* Answer general telephone inquiries.
* Work within a 24/7 shift pattern.
* Collaborate with other Medical Laboratory Assistants to deliver laboratory services.
* The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
