Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Commis Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will assist in food preparation and production. This role is essential in supporting the kitchen operations, ensuring that high standards of food safety and quality are maintained. The Commis will work closely with senior chefs, assisting in various kitchen tasks while developing their culinary skills.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation of ingredients and dishes as directed by senior kitchen staff.
* Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout all food production processes.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workspace, ensuring compliance with food safety standards.
* Support the kitchen team in cooking, plating and presenting dishes according to established recipes and presentation guidelines.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations and timely service.
* Follow recipes and presentation specifications to deliver consistent quality.
* Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating leadership qualities and effective communication skills.
* Ensure that the kitchen is organised, clean and well stocked with necessary supplies.
* Participate in inventory management by assisting with stock rotation and reporting to senior staff.
Experience
* Previous experience in food production or in a culinary environment is preferred, but not essential.
* Strong understanding of food safety practices and regulations.
* Basic knowledge food preparation techniques and cooking methods is advantageous.
* Leadership qualities with an eagerness to help supervise and mentor junior staff members.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
* A passion for hospitality and a desire to learn from experienced chefs.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
