SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 ASC Support
Location: Bury
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: Competitive daily rate
We are working on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Bury to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in the school’s SEN classroom. The child is non-verbal, so experience with alternative communication methods is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide individualised support to a pupil with ASC, ensuring their safety and engagement throughout the school day.
* Implement strategies to promote communication, including the use of visual aids, PECS, or other assistive tools.
* Support the child’s social, emotional, and academic development in line with their personalised learning plan.
* Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt activities and resources.
* Assist with personal care needs where required.
* Maintain accurate records of progress and communicate effectively with staff and parents.
* Create a calm, structured environment to reduce anxiety and encourage positive behaviour.
Requirements:
* Previous experience supporting children with ASC or complex needs.
* Understanding of non-verbal communication strategies.
* Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach.
* Ability to work as part of a team and follow safeguarding procedures.
