Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) to support a major infrastructure project during the construction phase.
This role has two key elements:
* Acting as an independent EnvCoW to monitor and report on environmental compliance
* Acting as the clients environmental representative on site, overseeing inspections, audits, and contractor compliance
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring all environmental commitments, planning conditions, and regulatory requirements are fully adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.Key Responsibilities
Independent EnvCoW Duties
* Monitor compliance with environmental commitments and planning conditions
* Produce monthly reports summarising site activities and compliance
* Report any environmental non-compliances within required timeframes
* Undertake pre-construction ecological surveys and ongoing monitoring
* Maintain a register of inspections, audits, and environmental controls
* Provide environmental guidance and training to site teams
Client Representative Duties
* Act as the environmental and consents representative on site
* Conduct site inspections and environmental audits
* Monitor contractor compliance with environmental legislation and management plans
* Support environmental incident reporting and investigations
* Attend regular meetings and provide weekly updates to stakeholders
* Ensure implementation of mitigation measures and environmental controls
Project Scope Overview
* Construction of a major HVDC converter station and high-voltage substation
* Associated works including earthworks, drainage, access, landscaping, and infrastructure
* Multi-contractor environment requiring strong coordination and communication
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related discipline
* Relevant professional memberships (desirable)
