Vascular Assessment Unit Assistant

We are looking for a highly motivated Band 3 Vascular Assessment Unit Assistant to join our team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital. The role involves supporting the vascular nurse specialist team in the daily running of nurse‑led clinics and inpatient reviews. It combines administrative and clinical duties across 22.5 hours per week (3 days).
Key Responsibilities
* Provide administrative duties in the daily running of nurse‑led vascular clinics.
* Manage telephone enquiries efficiently and courteously.
* Review patient records and data to ensure accuracy and update trust systems accordingly.
* Book, amend and cancel patient appointments for clinics and liaise with outpatient booking services.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for day‑to‑day enquiries, referring to senior staff when necessary.
* Utilise local or trust case note tracking system.
* Work under the direct supervision of the vascular nurse specialists.
* Undertake clinical duties relevant to the clinical area following competency achievement.
* Take observations from patients.
* Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with local and national standards.
* Assist in maintaining patient safety, adhering to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Improve patient experience and outcomes by maintaining and enhancing standards of care.
* Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
* Maintain a safe, clean and productive care environment complying with hygiene standards.
* Maintain and develop own competence.
* Actively resolve issues and complaints locally and report outcomes to line manager.
* Undertake any additional training or skills deemed appropriate.
Qualifications & Education
* GCSE Maths & English grade C or above (Grade 4‑9) OR functional/Key skills level 2 numeracy and functional/Key skills level 2 literacy.
* BNCS or NVQ/Internal Level 2 training programme in Health and Social Care.
* Level 3 QCF diploma (Qualification Credit Framework) in healthcare / NVQ level 3.
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience of working in an acute health care or related setting.
* Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare.
* Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality.
* Understanding of the role of a Band 3 senior HCA.
