Locum Consultant in Microbiology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS). The appointees will be part of a team of four Consultant Microbiologists and three Infectious Disease Consultants at Royal Stoke University Hospital (University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust) and a Consultant Microbiologists based at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust who collectively provide a comprehensive clinical Microbiology / ID service to the Trusts served by the NMCPS.
The post is a full time (up to 11.5 PA), 12-month fixed term posts based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) site. Whilst the post is offered on a full-time basis, the Trust would welcome discussions with individuals seeking more flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
Main duties of the job
You will work in a forward-thinking team of microbiologists. The clinical microbiology duties are well-organized, with several ward rounds/ MDTs each week. Both Trusts have robust Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship teams, with microbiologists/ID physicians actively involved. Clinical microbiology is supported by a well-equipped, modern automated laboratory and a highly skilled technical team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Applicants trained in the UK must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award at the time of interview.
* Non-UK trained applicants must demonstrate evidence of UK CCT equivalence.
* Applicants not on the specialist register must possess FRCPath and be able to submit a CESR application within 3 months of appointment.
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
* Mb ChB / MBBS or equivalent qualification.
* Full and specialist registration with the GMC or eligibility to register within six months of interview.
* Additional qualification relevant to Microbiology and Infection Control.
* MRCP or equivalent qualification.
* Higher Medical Degree (PhD/MD).
Experience
* Broad training and experience in microbiology and infectious diseases.
* Extensive experience in diagnosing and treating infections.
* Experience working in a UK infectious disease unit.
* Experience in infection control, clinical virology, or molecular diagnostic microbiology.
Achievements
* Ability to apply research to clinical practice.
* Awareness of current developments and issues in the field.
* Knowledge of research principles.
* Experience in conducting audits and implementing changes.
* Experience in original research.
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals within the last five years.
