Barnsley Hospital is seeking an experienced medical secretary to support the Trauma & Orthopaedic service. This demanding and rewarding role requires the successful applicant to work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues while managing a diverse workload.
The post holder will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of consultants, middle grade doctors, junior doctors, and nursing staff within Orthopaedics.
Previous medical secretarial experience and knowledge of medical terminology are preferred but not essential.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will serve as the main point of contact, disseminating information, messages, and inquiries for the medical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and other health professionals both internally and externally.
The role includes transcribing audio files accurately using digital dictation within Trust timeframes, as well as tasks like follow-up appointments and correspondence with other professionals.
Applicants should have good communication skills, be organized, and work well in a team. Flexibility and a proactive attitude are essential to maintain high standards.
The role is varied and requires proven administrative experience, excellent IT skills, especially with Microsoft Office 365, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
