Responsibilities

* Input accurate and timely patient and specimen data onto Trust computerised systems.
* Safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste.
* Act as first point of contact for telephone and face-to-face enquiries, handling them in a professional manner.
* Sort and identify specimens received, recognise discrepancies, and take appropriate action.
* Prepare samples for testing by laboratory staff and provide support with basic laboratory tasks as required by the supervisor.
* Dispatch and post samples to authorised persons and outside laboratories in compliance with all statutory regulations.
* Carry out agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training, referring to appropriately trained staff as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

* Ability to work as part of a team and to manage your own workload.
* Previous data entry experience or experience in a diagnostic pathology environment is advantageous; full training will be provided.

* Immunisation and vaccination report will be required from a current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Booking in specimens onto the laboratory computer system and acting as the first point of contact for enquiries under supervision and according to Standard Operative Procedures.
