Hours: 36.25 per week
Salary: £44,938.40 – 49,273.90
Leave: 28 days annual leave + 7 public holidays (rising to 33 days + 7 public holidays after 5 years)
Moray Council is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Principal Technician to join our Roads Maintenance team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality Roads Maintenance Services across the region, with a strong focus on financial support, estimating, and operational performance.
About the Role
As a key member of the team, you will support the financial and operational management of our in-house contractor services. You will work closely with Contracts Co-Ordinators and Engineers to ensure accurate pricing of works, robust financial reporting, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Estimating & Pricing:
Assist in the preparation of estimates and pricing for maintenance works and tenders, ensuring alignment with departmental procedures.
* Financial Reporting & Unit Costing:
Support financial management through accurate unit costing and reporting, helping maintain budgetary control and transparency.
* Performance Monitoring:
Collaborate with Engineers to set targets and monitor performance, contributing to the development of a responsive and efficient service.
* Document & Compliance Management:
Maintain and update operational documents, including those related to Health and Safety and the Quality Management System.
* Service Development:
Assist in the development and implementation of the operational performance framework to support strategic improvements.
* Team Leadership:
Manage staff and allocate work effectively to meet service objectives and deadlines.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience in estimating, pricing, or financial support within a roads, civil engineering, or public works environment.
* Strong analytical and organisational skills.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations and quality management systems.
* Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
* Ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities.
