Offer description

The role of a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner is demanding and fast-paced. During your training, you will be supported to develop skills enabling you to conduct assessments of people with mild to severe mental health difficulties, complete risk assessments, and deliver evidence-based interventions to people with mild to moderate depression and anxiety and other common mental health problems. Trainees are expected to progress to working autonomously, with high-volume caseloads including individual and group work. The role is well supported with weekly clinical and case management supervision from qualified clinicians. In addition to clinical contact, the role will include data collection, data management, analysis, and note writing. We are looking to attract individuals with experience working in mental health to join our services in North East Essex (Colchester/Tendring). PLEASE NOTE:

If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the vacancy early. This is a developmental post. Candidates will receive intensive training and supervision to work in the NHS Talking Therapies PWP role and will study for the Postgraduate Certificate in Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with the University of Essex. The expected start date for training is 22nd September 2025. The training involves three days per week in service gaining experience assessing and working with local community members, one university day, and one scheduled study day. This may involve a combination of in-person and remote learning. Therapy For You is an NHS Talking Therapies service based in NE and SE Essex, offering services including self-help psychoeducational courses, therapy groups, online/digital therapeutic services, and individual therapies. The service works with adults (16+ years) presenting with mild, moderate, and severe anxiety and depression. We are committed to providing out-of-hours services, which may involve working evenings or Saturdays, typically 6-9 pm or 9 am-1 pm, respectively. During training, a hybrid working model will be adopted, with clients seen remotely via telephone and video conferencing, as well as face-to-face in GP surgeries and health centres. Within 6 months of qualification, all practitioners will apply for individual registration with a professional body, either the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). PLEASE NOTE:

If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the vacancy early. Applicants must have a valid permit to work and study in the UK to be eligible. Duties & Responsibilities Include: Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service. Assess and support individuals with common mental health problems in self-managing their recovery. Conduct patient-centred interviews to identify areas for change or recovery and assess risk to self and others. Decide on the suitability of new referrals, adhering to referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients to relevant services or back to the referral agent, or escalate treatment as necessary. Provide information and support for evidence-based low-intensity psychological treatments, including guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments, delivered face-to-face, by telephone, or via other media. Maintain standards of practice according to employer and regulatory bodies, and stay updated on new guidelines and recommendations.
