Support Medical Secretary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our secretarial team within the Gynaecology Service at the Jessop Wing. The role provides a link between the Trust, the patient and their GP for patients/carers and other healthcare professionals. You will provide a comprehensive, efficient and responsive secretarial service to the medical staff and their teams.

To work collaboratively with the clerical, secretarial and clinical teams to provide an accurate and effective secretarial service to the Gynaecology service. The post holder will work with minimal supervision and be expected to work flexibly as part of a multi‑disciplinary team providing a wide range of specific secretarial duties.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to provide comprehensive secretarial support to the clinical and nursing teams based in Gynaecology.

You will need to have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team whilst maintaining a high standard of work. The ability to prioritise your workload and to know when to elevate issues is essential. You will need to be able to liaise with staff throughout the Trust at all levels including consultants, management, nursing staff, GP's, patients and patient relatives, dealing effectively and efficiently with their enquiries.

To be successful in your application you will need to have a good standard of education, experience of an office‑based role, excellent verbal, written communication and typing skills and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* 5 GCSE's including Maths and English at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent demonstrable experience)
* Medical word processing qualification


Experience

* Relevant experience of audio typing
* Experience of providing phone‑based customer service to the public
* Experience of using administrative systems
* Excellent computer skills including standard office packages and e‑mail
* Experience of working effectively with colleagues from a range of disciplines and levels of seniority
* Experience of exercising initiative and demonstrating innovative approaches within overall delegated responsibility and parameters
* Determination and resilience in meeting objectives and deadlines
* Experience of maintaining a fast pace of work
* Experience in using an Electronic Patient Record System
* Typing and circulating minutes
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Experience of database and spreadsheet management
* Diary management (electronic and paper versions)


Further Training

* A willingness to undertake training as required to deliver the duties of the post
* Proof of continuous self‑development
