Job Description
As Interim Conservation Officer, you will lead on the management, preservation, and regeneration of Stockport's historic built environment. You'll provide expert advice on heritage matters, contribute to planning and policy development, and work collaboratively across teams to support sustainable growth.Key Responsibilities:
3. Advise on listed buildings, conservation areas, and heritage-led regeneration
4. Lead on the council's statutory duties relating to the historic environment
5. Manage the Stockport Historic Environment Database (SHED)
6. Engage with developers, property owners, and national heritage bodies
7. Support funding bids and ensure compliance with grant conditions
8. Contribute to planning briefs, design codes, and strategic policy
The Successful Applicant
The successful applicant will be a skilled and proactive heritage professional with a strong understanding of the historic built environment and its role in sustainable development. They will bring experience of advising on listed buildings, conservation areas, and regeneration projects, ideally within a local authority setting.They will be confident working across disciplines, engaging with planners, developers, and national heritage bodies, and will have the ability to interpret policy creatively to deliver high-quality outcomes. A degree in planning, architecture or conservation is essential, and membership of IHBC, RTPI or RIBA is desirable. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to inclusive practice are key to success in this role.
