Overview
We are representing our client, a leading multidisciplinary construction and fire safety consultancy, in their search for an Associate Technical Director (Fire Engineering). Based out of the Sevenoaks head office with hybrid working, this senior leadership role will act as the Technical Lead and Fire Engineering Advisor, driving technical excellence, governance, innovation and strategic growth across the fire engineering discipline. The position combines high‑level technical authority, team leadership, client engagement, business development and oversight of complex, high‑risk projects from concept through to remediation and completion.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Technical Leadership
* Lead the technical delivery of the fire engineering discipline across the business.
* Set technical direction, standards and governance aligned with regulatory and industry best practice.
* Provide strategic oversight from concept design through to remediation and completion.
* Drive innovation in fire engineering, including digital tools, reporting systems and the “Golden Thread”.
* Support Directors in shaping long‑term growth, service positioning and strategic client development.
* Represent the business at industry forums, CPDs, technical panels and sector events.
* Lead recruitment, succession planning and development of team structure.
* Ensure integration of fire engineering with wider multidisciplinary services.
Technical Authority & Quality Assurance
* Provide expert technical authority on fire safety defects, façade risk and remediation strategies.
* Lead complex technical analysis for high‑rise and high‑risk buildings, ensuring proportionate and compliant solutions.
* Oversee and sign off FRAEWs, fire strategies, remediation recommendations and other technical outputs.
* Lead peer reviews, technical audits and quality assurance processes.
* Drive consistency and excellence across all fire engineering deliverables.
* Oversee development of fire strategies, fire statements and Building Safety Case inputs.
Client Engagement & Stakeholder Management
* Act as senior technical advisor and primary escalation point for key clients.
* Lead client engagement on complex and sensitive remediation schemes, including resident‑facing situations.
* Translate complex fire engineering issues into clear, actionable advice for stakeholders.
* Support Directors with business development, securing repeat work and expanding fire engineering services.
* Maintain excellent communication with clients, contractors, residents and wider stakeholders.
Programme, Governance & Operational Delivery
* Work with Directors to improve efficiency, reporting systems and digital tools.
* Lead and oversee technical fire engineering delivery across multiple projects.
* Report regularly on project status, risks and performance.
* Monitor quality of work and ensure compliance with company KPIs.
* Provide strategic input into procurement, consultant appointments and contract documentation.
* Lead bid submissions, framework responses and technical input into tenders.
* Oversee implementation and continuous improvement of Quality Management Systems.
* Develop technical templates, guidance notes and digital workflows.
Team Leadership & Development
* Communicate team requirements, performance expectations and development needs.
* Mentor and support team members in technical development.
* Develop future technical leaders within the fire engineering team.
* Advise on technical risk relating to appointments and professional liability.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* 10+ years’ post‑qualification experience in fire engineering or fire safety consultancy.
* Chartered or working towards chartership (IFE, CEng, MCIOB or equivalent).
* Extensive experience with:
* External wall systems (EWS1, FRAEW, PAS 9980)
* Residential, public sector and Build‑to‑Rent projects
* Remediation and re‑cladding schemes
* Fire strategies and technical advisory roles
* Expert knowledge of Building Regulations (Part B), Fire Safety legislation and the Building Safety Act.
* Advanced understanding of façade fire risk, compartmentation and remediation methodologies.
* Proven ability to lead technical governance, peer review and quality assurance processes.
* Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage team financial performance.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‑influencing skills at senior level.
* Experience working within a quality management system.
