Job Overview
Were looking for a first‑class journalist to join the ambitious team at BBC H&W. You will be responsible for preparing and reading weekday bulletins in the important morning timeslots, recording bulletins for smart speakers, and being part of the on‑air team for the BBC Hereford and Worcester Breakfast show. You will also liaise with colleagues at BBC online and Midlands Today to promote the best stories and strongest new lines.
Responsibilities
* Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
* Keep colleagues across the BBC – including online, social media, TV and national radio – informed about breaking or big stories.
* Gather and edit material as a multi‑media journalist for use across all outputs (radio, online, TV and social media).
* Play an on‑air role in audio programmes.
* Live broadcasting – perform live as a newsreader in pressurised and time‑sensitive environments.
* Contribute to high‑quality, audience‑focused journalism across platforms.
Qualifications
* Strong bulletin writing and editing skills.
* Creativity – the ability to generate great story ideas for local radio and the digital space.
* Sound editorial and policy decisions based on a clear understanding of the BBCs news agenda and audience. Demonstrate ability to choose and write stories in the strongest way possible.
* Effective planning and organising skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
* Ability to use technology to gather material for broadcast and maximise opportunities on digital platforms including BBC Sounds.
