Paralegal – Court of Protection Contract: Permanent Salary: Dependent on experience Office base: Wigan, WN3 5BA – hybrid working available following an initial training period ( 2–3 days per week in the office) Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Are you a law graduate looking for an exciting new opportunity? The Role As a Paralegal within our Court of Protection team, you will support solicitors and partners on a wide range of matters relating to vulnerable clients who lack capacity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded and supportive team, where you will gain exposure to varied and meaningful work, while developing your legal knowledge and practical skills. You will play an important role in ensuring clients receive a high standard of care, assisting with both legal and administrative aspects of case management. Key responsibilities include: Supporting fee earners with the day-to-day management of Court of Protection files Drafting correspondence, legal documents, and preparing court bundles Liaising with clients, families, case managers, medical professionals, and other stakeholders Assisting with deputyship matters, including financial administration and reporting Managing new enquiries and communicating effectively with clients and third parties Organising meetings, appointments, and attending where appropriate Ensuring files are maintained in line with regulatory and compliance requirements Assisting with billing, time recording, and general administrative tasks Contributing to team development and identifying cross-referral opportunities To find out more about the work of our Court of Protection team, please click here. We’re looking for someone who can: Work with empathy and professionalism when supporting vulnerable clients Manage a varied caseload with strong attention to detail Work independently while collaborating effectively within a team Remain organised and calm when dealing with sensitive matters Communicate clearly and confidently with clients and professionals Handle confidential information with discretion Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Demonstrate a genuine interest in Court of Protection work and a long-term career in this area Essential You will need: 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (grade C/4 or above) A Law degree (ideally 2:1 or above) or relevant equivalent experience Strong administrative and organisational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Confidence using IT systems and the ability to learn new technology The ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines A professional and compassionate approach when dealing with sensitive matters Desirable It would be beneficial, though not essential, if you also have: Previous experience in Court of Protection, private client, or a similar area Understanding of mental capacity law and deputyship work Experience using case management systems Knowledge of compliance and client care procedures We also look for individuals who embody our brand values: approachable, flexible, inclusive, resilient, and supportive.
