Job Title: Communications Officer (Temporary)
Team: Policy & Performance – Communications Team
Location: Civic Centre
Reports to: Communications Manager
Hours: 36 per week

Job Purpose
As a key member of the Communications Team, you will support both internal and external communications with a strong focus on web content management and digital communications. You will ensure that website and intranet content is accurate, accessible, engaging, and aligned with organisational standards, while also supporting wider communications activity including social media, press work, and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
* Write, edit, and maintain website content using content management systems (CMS)
* Ensure all web content is clear, accessible, and consistent with brand standards
* Produce high-quality news articles and updates for residents, councillors, and staff
* Maintain and update the intranet to keep employees informedSupport communications campaigns across digital and internal channels
* Assist with social media content creation and channel management
* Support press and media enquiries, including drafting press releases
* Use Canva and Office 365 tools to support visual and written communications
* Assist in communications during emergency situations when required
* Undertake additional communications-related tasks as directed by management
Person Requirements
* Experience using website CMS platforms and editing web content
* Strong written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information
* Experience supporting or delivering communications campaigns
* Knowledge of social media content creation and digital communication channels
* Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Canva
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build strong relationships
* Highly organised with the ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities
* Flexible, adaptable, and problem-solving approach
Desirable Experience
* Experience working in local government or with elected members
* Experience dealing with media enquiries (proactive and reactive)
* Understanding of accessibility standards for web content
* Experience in internal communications or intranet management

You will be expected to maintain high professional standards, work collaboratively across departments, and contribute to a culture of clear, accessible, and inclusive communication. Some flexibility may be required, including occasional evening meetings.
