Join to apply for the Technical Author role with the Environment Agency. Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical Author in the UK BAT team you can. You’ll be responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for industry.
* Specialist knowledge and understanding of the Slaughterhouse and Animal By‑Products industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
* Strong grasp of UK environmental legislation and policy.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Ability to develop clear, concise technical documents.
* Good project management skills and a drive to complete projects on time.
* Willingness to travel and stay overnight as required.

Experience/skills required
At least 5 years of working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the UK and EU industrial contexts, including the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
Key competencies include:
- Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data
- Understanding the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment
- Verbal and written communication
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely and effective results
- Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus
