Job Title: Graduate Learning Support Assistant (Contract)

Hours per week: 35 hours (08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday)
Contract: 42‑week basis (permanent)
Salary: Band 3 – S9 to S12 (£21,688 – £23,274)
Accountable to: Assistant Principal, Inclusion

About the Role
The Graduate Learning Support Assistant reports to the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) and supports children’s learning across all aspects of the Academy. The role supports high‑quality teaching in classrooms, small groups and one‑to‑one interventions, ensuring pupils receive the resources and encouragement they need to progress.
Key Responsibilities
* Support named pupils to become fully included in lessons and make expected progress.
* Ensure pupils have appropriate resources to complete tasks and respond to queries about work.
* Promote a good standard of behaviour by following the Academy’s behaviour procedures.
* Establish productive working relationships with pupils, act as a role model and set high expectations.
* Use strategies to recognise and reward self‑reliance, providing feedback on progress and achievement.
* Liaise with teachers, pastoral heads, other support staff, health and education specialists, parents, visitors and volunteers to maintain a high standard of learning.
* Assist with break and lunch‑time duties, first aid, carrying up‑to‑date records, completing deadlines, invigilating examinations, supporting specific pupils in class, supporting school visits, staffing the Inclusion Room, assisting in induction/enrolment of new pupils and other project work as allocated.
* Keep up to date with developments in your area of responsibility and take responsibility for your own professional development in discussion with your line manager.
* Ensure consistent implementation of school and Trust policies and procedures throughout subject areas; work collaboratively with colleagues within the Trust.
* Work within the Academy framework regarding Health and Safety, First Aid duties, equal opportunities, trust loyalty, safeguarding, professional development, and report safeguarding concerns per Trust policies.
* Undertake any additional duties reasonably required by the CEO or Executive Principal.
Person Specification
Educational & Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above (or equivalent).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Hold a Degree 2:2 or above (or equivalent).
* Experience working with children.
Knowledge & Experience
* Keen organisational skills and ability to multitask.
* Clear plain English communication in a business/office setting.
* High level communication and literacy skills.
* Ability to think on your feet, react quickly and effectively in sensitive situations.
* Initiative to communicate confidently and effectively with pupils and staff.
* Experience working in a school or office environment.
* Experience of leading and managing people in interdisciplinary teams.
* Competent user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and intermediate or better user of the suite.
* Experience using ARBOUR.
