Second line support engineer
Location: Remote in UK
Department: Infrastructure team
Reports to: Senior DevOps Engineer
Security Clearance: Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC) – Essential
This role is remote in the UK, but you will be expected to travel occasionally to an office in the UK (Bristol or Surrey) for onboarding and team meetups. Travel and accommodation will be paid for.
£30,000 - £38,000 salary + benefits (see below)

About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive 2nd line support engineer to serve as a technical expert, diagnosing, investigating and resolving escalated tickets to provide consistent and high-quality service to our customers.
What you’ll do
• Provide remote hardware and software support for our locations around the globe.
• Engage in troubleshooting activities, following guidance and existing documentation.
• Assist with all stages of ticket handling and escalate when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with more experienced engineers to gain deeper insights into complex issues.
• Document solutions for other teams to follow, such as operations engineers and first line support.
• Use a ticketing system to update, communicate, and move work items to completion.
What we are looking for
• 3+ years of working on a support desk; this is not an entry-level position.
• Detailed knowledge of Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) operating systems
• Comfortable working with virtual machines in Proxmox or VMware.
• Strong network understanding of IP routing, switching and VPNs. Using vendors such as Ubiquiti Unifi, Meraki, Peplink, Tailscale or Teltonika.
• Previous experience working in a support desk environment, using ticketing systems (Zendesk, Freshdesk or Clickup).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Excellent information management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks independently.
• Effective written and oral communicator.
Bonus if you have
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
• Source code management experience (Git, Github, Azure DevOps)
• Used container orchestration tools like Docker Compose, Kubernetes, K3S or MicroK8S
• Experience with programming/scripting in PowerShell, Python or Bash.
• MDM experience with Microsoft Intune.
• Certification in networking or infrastructure like CompTIA
• Maritime knowledge of radar systems.
• Participated in an on-call rota in the past.
