Police Seized Property Officer

We are now hiring for a part time Seized Property Officer at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough to support operational policing and reduce organisational risk by providing a managed service for the administration, storage and disposal of crime and evidential property.

The Role
You will join the existing team at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough. This part‑time role is 22.5 hours per week, working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The role will be based at our Thorpe Wood Police Station with occasional requirement to travel to other sites. The role requires on‑site presence; there is no remote working possible. Your duties include supporting operational policing and reducing organisational risk by managing the administration, storage and disposal of crime and evidential property.
* Receive, register and maintain records on all items stored in the seized property stores to ensure audit traceability of crime evidence.
* Retain seized property for evidential purposes in line with force policy.
* Process seized property for disposal, incorporating safe manual handling practices.
* Recommend any improvements to storage facilities and processes.
* Work with external partners, police officers and investigators to dispose of property efficiently and effectively.
* Consult/support staff concerning property held subject to crime and arranging release or destruction of property as appropriate, and support localised training as required.
* Respond appropriately to enquiries from members of the public regarding property items where appropriate to ensure that items are held legally and returned to the rightful owner.
* Conduct scheduled and ad hoc property audits with the property manager in accordance with force policy.
Are you the right person for the Seized Property Officer position?
We seek someone with the right values and attitude that align with ours. We are looking for candidates who are:
* GCSE or equivalent (minimum grade C) in English Language and Maths.
* A minimum of one year’s experience of working in an office environment.
* A minimum of two years’ experience of working in a customer‑facing role (retail, reception etc.), servicing customers effectively and dealing with complaints.
* Experienced in using Microsoft Office and M365.
* A confident communicator able to deal with upset, aggressive or confrontational people in a polite, diplomatic and positive way.
* Capable of effectively prioritising workload and working independently, with attention to detail whilst working under pressure and at pace.
* Able to work effectively with other department team members and build effective relationships at all levels.
* Possess great attention to detail.
* Be proactive and use initiative.
