Residential Childcare Support Worker – Bay View Childcare
Location: Lancaster
Contract: Full time, permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: Basic salary of £25,563.20 with the potential to earn up to £32,283.20 with sleep‑in shifts.
About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational support worker to join our established Residential Team at Bayview. You will work in a family‑feel children's home in Heysham or rural North Lancaster, caring for a maximum of four young people per home. The role involves guiding children aged 8‑18 with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties, maintaining a safe, secure, homely, and positive environment, and continually improving the quality, image, and reputation of the home.
Responsibilities
* Carry out duties as a Childcare Worker and Key Worker, consistently exceeding Ofsted National Standards.
* Ensure the highest possible standard of childcare for the children resident in the Home.
* Purposefully and systematically improve the lives of all young people in the Home.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with families, friends, and external bodies as requested by the Registered Manager.
* Contribute to a culture of trust and mutual respect between children and staff.
* Develop and implement appropriate care plans for each young person.
* Adhere to all legal requirements, Ofsted standards, and Bay View Childcare policies.
* Collect and communicate feedback from residents, families, and authorities to management.
* Maintain a clean, tidy, safe, and secure Home environment.
* Build trusting, constructive relationships with children, understand their backgrounds, and support their personal success.
* Supervise children, identify signs of distress, and engage them as needed.
* De‑escalate conflict situations in line with company policies.
* Communicate issues and concerns promptly to the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and Shift Leader.
* Carry out risk assessments for new activities and pre‑activity assessments for existing activities.
* Participate actively in activities with children, acting as a supportive figure.
* Maintain regular communication with families and friends regarding the children’s welfare.
* Follow all records‑keeping procedures and complete necessary paperwork diligently.
* Ensure food standards are met and assist with cooking and purchasing foodstuffs.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Diploma Level 3 in Working with Children & Young People or Level 4 Children, Young People and Families practitioner apprenticeship within 2 years if not already possessed.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check if successful.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
