SEND Support Assistant

Location: Middlesbrough

Contract Type: Temporary (with potential for permanent placement)

Hello Education is proud to be working in partnership with a number of SEND schools across Middlesbrough to recruit dedicated and compassionate SEND Support Assistants. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to help create a positive, inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a variety of SEND needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and learning difficulties.
* Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored learning activities to meet individual pupils’ needs.
* Support the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Promote pupils’ independence, self-confidence, and social interaction.
* Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner.
* Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
* Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to ensure consistent and effective support for all pupils.


Person Specification

* Have experience (or a strong desire to gain experience) working with children or young people with additional needs in an educational or care setting.
* Demonstrate excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
* Are patient, resilient, and committed to supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning.
* Hold (or are willing to obtain) a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.
* Possess relevant training or qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEND, or Childcare (desirable).
* Have Moving and Handling or Team Teach training (advantageous but not essential).
