The Role: We are supporting a well-known company with their recruitment of a Merchandiser/Buyer. The successfully appointed candidate will support with planning and forecasting to ensure products remain in stock. You will collaborate with overseas suppliers, particularly in China and India. Responsibilities of the Merchandiser/Buyer: Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers and shareholders to support long-term business success. Support negotiations on supplier cost prices, lead times, and payment terms. Contribute to the development of stock and sales performance reports, identifying opportunities to increase revenue. Oversee pricing across all categories to ensure market competitiveness while safeguarding profitability. Enhance product performance by developing a deep understanding of the range, competitive landscape, and broader retail market. Foster effective cross-department collaboration to optimise sales, profitability, and stock efficiency. Continuously seek opportunities to improve the product offering by reviewing customer feedback, product reviews, and return data. Analyse sales patterns, stock levels, and production timelines to generate purchase orders and maintain inventory within budget targets. Ensure consistent product availability through proactive demand forecasting and strategic inventory management to prevent stockouts. The Candidate: The successful Merchandiser/Buyer will have the following skills and abilities: Background in buying or purchasing is essential. Experience working with overseas suppliers, typically from the East Asia region. Highly motivated, adaptable, and committed to learning and growing within the company. Strong negotiation abilities and solid commercial awareness, with the capability to identify trends and assess their impact on stock levels. Proficient in Excel for maintaining ordering spreadsheets and generating stock and sales trend reports, with confidence using other Microsoft Office applications. Skilled in sourcing and interpreting data, with the ability to develop a thorough understanding of business systems. Able to work both proactively and reactively in a fast-paced environment, remaining calm under pressure and when managing multiple tasks. Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively within a team. Knowledgeable in WSSI (Weekly, Sales, Stock and Intake) tools and category planning.
