We are currently searching for a Hardware Management Engineer to join our Research Infrastructure Engineering team within a Finance client. The role focuses on day‑to‑day operations, monitoring, and maintenance of the physical server infrastructure.
Opticore IT is a specialist Network Engineering and Project Management consultancy delivering projects across Finance, Broadcast Media, Telecommunications and more.
This is a 6‑month initial contract, inside IR35, with the prospect of extension. You will be required to work on site 5 days a week, based in Central London.
What you’ll be doing
* Responding to hardware alerts and coordinating diagnosis, triage, and resolution.
* Managing vendor tickets, escalating issues, and ensuring SLA compliance.
* Planning and performing hardware replacements, upgrades, and firmware updates.
* Coordinating with DCO staff for physical deployments, cabling, and troubleshooting.
* Maintaining asset records including serial numbers, lifecycle status, and service events.
* Supporting capacity planning and ensuring infrastructure readiness.
* Keeping documentation up to date on hardware inventories, layouts, and support processes.
What you’ll bring
* 2–5 years of experience in hardware operations, infrastructure support, or data centre engineering.
* Solid understanding of server components (CPUs, memory, storage, NICs, etc.) and system diagnostics.
* Hands‑on experience with HPE OneView, Redfish APIs, and HPE iLO interfaces.
* Exposure to Linux and automation systems, including boot management and provisioning workflows.
* Use of NetBox for asset tracking and documentation.
* Configuration management with Ansible.
