Overview
The Environment Agency is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all vacancies. Join us in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued.
Do you want to effectively regulate the energy sectors to create a better place? The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK greenhouse gas emissions. They will need to decarbonise by 2050 while doubling electricity production. We aim to regulate energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions and to mitigate and adapt to climate-change impacts.
We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including various scales of combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responding to incidents is a central part of our work. You may be asked to have an incident role and to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players).
In addition, the team provides guidance on standards for the sectors and supports delivery of environmental best practice.
Experience/Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and to encourage consideration of diversity issues in work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including emissions control where applicable.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
