Tradewind is recruiting a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join an SEMH school in Wigan, supporting young people who require additional emotional, social, and behavioural support to succeed.
The Role
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital part in supporting teenagers who have faced significant social, emotional, or educational barriers. You'll work alongside a committed pastoral and SEND team to help students regulate, re-engage, and progress confidently.
Key Responsibilities
Emotional & Behavioural Support
* Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions for students with SEMH needs.
* Use trauma-informed, restorative, and nurturing approaches to support emotional regulation.
* Help create a calm, safe, and consistent school environment.
Relationship Building
* Act as a trusted adult and positive role model.
* Build strong, professional relationships that encourage resilience, communication, and self-belief.
Learning & Engagement Support
* Encourage students to re-engage with learning and overcome barriers.
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral leads, and the SENCO to ensure all needs outlined in EHCPs are supported effectively.
Team Collaboration
* Monitor and report on progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
* Work alongside staff across the provision to deliver high‑quality care and interventions.
What We're Looking For
* Experience supporting young people with SEMH or mental health needs.
* A calm, patient, and resilient approach to managing challenging behaviour.
* Strong communication, de‑escalation, and relationship‑building skills.
* A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
