Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist. This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and will support the expansion of surgical, critical care, pain management, perioperative medicine and acute oncology services at The Christie. The post holder will contribute to anaesthesia across oncological specialties, with sessions for oncological surgery, radiotherapy, and potentially proton therapy to support paediatric anaesthesia. The job plan includes 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (SPA). On appointment, the successful candidate will review and agree a job plan with the Clinical Director for Anaesthesia & Critical Care, in collaboration with the Directorate Operations Manager, with support for the candidate\'s interests. The department is expanding and offers opportunities for future development. Applicants with a specialist interest in Critical Care are welcomed and will be accommodated when possible.
Main duties of the job
This post is complemented by 25 other consultants, eight of whom contribute to critical care cover. There are nine resident specialty doctors covering OCCU, supported by two specialist trainees in acute medicine or internal medicine, one clinical fellow and an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP). The post holder will share with the other consultants the responsibility for the continuity of care of patients treated at The Christie. The successful candidate will work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share administrative duties with consultant colleagues. The post holder is expected to follow the division\'s policies and procedures, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will share responsibility for continuity of care with other consultants and work with local managers and colleagues to run services efficiently. The candidate will follow terms and conditions of service, policies and financial instructions. The department supports CPD as required by GMC/royal colleges, and staff have time and financial support for CPD. Job planning is prospective and aligned with the Trust\'s cycles. An initial job plan discussion is expected within six months of employment, with annual reviews thereafter. Mandatory training must be maintained with core SPA time allocated for training. The timetable below is indicative; new consultants must have 0.25 SPAs for appraisal and supervision, which can be as appraiser or supervisor for medical staff or ACP.
Job Plan Timetable
A standard 8-week rota cycle applies. The plan includes a Direct Clinical Care (DCC) allocation and a Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) allocation as detailed in the original plan (7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPA). The on-call commitments include a 1:8 rota with a 2.2 PA allocation and 5% on-call supplement. There is a separate theatre on-call rota for emergency surgery.

* Full GMC registration with a valid license to practice
* CCT or CESR with entry on Specialist Registers for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine or within six months of anticipated CCT date at interview
