Newham Talking Therapies (NTT) is now recruiting 2 High Intensity CBT Trainee as part of the Talking Therapies Services.
Applications are invited from qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychological Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychotherapists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to apply for the one year full-time post graduate diploma course based at Royal Holloway.
Main duties of the job
The trainee CBT position includes undertaking the PG Diploma in High Intensity CBT at Royal Holloway, and you can find out more about this role by visiting the Royal Holloway website. Trainees will spend 2 days at university and then 3 days in service working with clients with a range of difficulties.
Shortlisted candidates will be offered an interview during early January 2026 with our service and successful candidates will be offered a conditional offer of employment. As part of this conditional offer, candidates will be required to have an academic meeting with Royal Holloway staff mid-January.
Please note candidates who are Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners must have 2 years post qualification experience at the start of the course (March 2026). Furthermore, we are unable to accept candidates who have already undertaken High Intensity CBT IAPT funded training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The training programme consists of three days working within a Talking Therapies service and two days at university taught by experts in the field. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer any alternative days for interview.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential criteria
10. A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy. Qualified psychological Wellbeing Practitioners must have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
11. OR Evidence using the career framework of training in mental health and experience working in a stepped care service for anxiety and depression

12. Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services
13. Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets
14. Ability to manage own caseload and time
15. Demonstrates high standards in written communication
16. Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
17. Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
18. Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health
19. Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
20. Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
21. Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training
22. Computer literate
23. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
24. Has received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
