Contracts Manager - Mechanical & Engineering (M&E)
Ensure Croydon's homes and estates are safe, compliant, and fit for the future.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Contracts Manager (M&E) to join Croydon's Housing Asset & Compliance team. This is a key role overseeing contracts that keep our residents safe and our housing stock compliant, including lifting equipment, sprinklers, ventilation, electric gates and other essential mechanical and engineering systems.
About the role
* Lead on contract management for Tier 2 M&E services, ensuring safety, compliance, and value for money.
* Monitor contractor performance, manage budgets, and ensure statutory requirements are met.
* Respond to urgent compliance issues and oversee risk management.
* Work closely with residents, contractors, councillors, and internal teams to deliver safe, effective services.
* Provide technical expertise and ensure Croydon meets all relevant legal and regulatory standards.
* Prepare monthly performance reports to present to Senior staff members.
* Preparation of draft budget proposals each year for servicing, upgrades, and new installations.
* Work with the Business Support Manager to address all complaints and ensure enquiries are responded to in a timely manner
* Carry out one to ones, appraisals, and performance reviews with team members.
* Undertake the out of hours duty manager role on a rota basis
About you
* Strong knowledge and understanding of mechanical and engineering compliance areas, including LOLER, communal heating, sprinklers, and ventilation.
* Qualified in an M&E service-related function
* Proven experience in contract and performance management.
* Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond quickly to emerging risks.
* A collaborative leader, able to work effectively with contractors, residents, and colleagues across the council.
