Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Emergency Department for a Practice Educator, working alongside the Practice Development Nurse. The roles will be supporting adult and paediatric nurses working in the Emergency Department. The ED at Luton is a busy fast paced environment seeing a wide range of patient groups presenting with a variety of presentations from acute trauma to medical and surgical emergencies. Supporting our nurses in practice bridging their knowledge and skills gap to help them reach their clinical potential while supporting them pastorally will improve staff retention, patient care and also give you an immense sense of job satisfaction.
Main duties of the job
To develop and deliver clinical skills and vocational training programmes for multi-professional audiences in support of identified training needs to support the delivery of learning within the Emergency Department (ED) in conjunction with the Emergency Department Practice Development Nurse (PDN).
To work alongside ED nursing staff in clinical areas, offering 1 : 1 clinical teaching with guidance and supervision.
To actively promote patient safety and, through the facilitation of training programmes, departmental teaching or coaching ensure that learning reflects improvements to the patient experience. To manage the process of assessment of clinical skills, ensuring that competency data is collected, maintained and reported on a quarterly basis to the divisional Matron via the Emergency Department PDN.
The expectation is that this role will be based in a clinical area.

Clinical Skills Training
* To deliver agreed training programmes for clinical practice in support of the Trust’s Development Strategy ensuring that the programmes are updated; evidence based and that the process for assessed practice is monitored.
* To provide on-going support and assessment of clinical skills such as those requiring competency sign off in the practice areas ensuring the assessment documentation is completed to the expected standard creating an atmosphere conducive to learning i.e. Preceptorship Handbook, Care certificate, Apprenticeship course.
* To actively encourage and participate in sharing good practice throughout the Emergency Department with multi-professional staff.
* To contribute to the training needs analysis of each clinical area in liaison with Emergency Department PDN.
* In liaison with Emergency Department PDN develop and facilitate new clinical skills training programmes and to design competency based training programmes where they do not exist to meet those needs.
* To contribute to the quality control aspects of Education ensuring that the standards required of the Educational governance from the Health Education East of England are maintained.
* To deliver training on new clinical equipment in each area.
* To support the newly qualified nurses at the Trust throughout the preceptorship period and assist in the delivery of the preceptorship competency programme.
* To support Training nurse associate, Nurse associate, health care assistants and technicians.
Managerial Responsibilities
* To take part in sharing good practice days for multi-professional staff, raising awareness of development opportunities throughout the Trust.
* To participate in recruitment and selection of staff for Student Nurses, Return to Practice students as and when appropriate.
* To be actively involved in promoting good communication between wards / departments.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* NMC registered
* MSPP or equivalent
* ALS
* Safeguarding level 3
* EPALS / APLS
Desirable criteria
* ALS / EPALS instructor
* Postgraduates or Masters Level course
Experience
Essential criteria
* The relevant ED experience
* Has worked as a band 6
* Experience of mentoring or supervising Students
* Experience of mentoring or supervising Staff
Desirable criteria
* Experience of variety of teaching methods
* Has taken part in audit
Knowledge
