Senior Temporary Works Engineer – Civil Engineering

Are you a highly experienced Temporary Works Engineer ready to lead, mentor, and shape the safe delivery of complex civil engineering schemes? We are currently seeking a Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join a well-established contractor delivering a broad range of infrastructure projects across Scotland.
This is a key leadership role for an engineer with extensive hands-on design experience, strong technical knowledge, and a passion for nurturing the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design, checking, and coordination of temporary works, including:
Deep excavations and shoring
Formwork and falsework
Piling and crane platforms
Temporary roads and access structures
Propping and support systems
Ensure designs meet relevant standards (e.g. BS 5975, Eurocodes, British Standards) and project-specific requirements
Produce and review detailed CAD drawings
Act as Temporary Works Designer and, when required, Checker in line with procedural and safety protocols
Collaborate with site teams, attending pre-construction meetings, inspections, and technical briefings
Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, promoting best practices in both design and delivery
Engage with stakeholders to ensure technical clarity and buildable, safe solutions across active sites
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 15 years’ experience, with at least 10 years focused on temporary works design
Deep knowledge of temporary works principles, including BS 5975 compliance
Proficient in AutoCAD
Demonstrated leadership in mentoring and supporting junior staff
Strong communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Central Scotland
Desirable Attributes:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (e.g., CEng, IEng – ICE or IStructE)
Certified Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Supervisor (TWS)
Familiarity with Network Rail standards or other major stakeholder requirements
Experience with 3D modelling tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks)
