Overview
Job summary: This is a permanent 8PA Clinical Oncology Lung Consultant role within the Clinical Network Services Division. The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary team to provide specialist medical input for patients within the Lung disease group and will work alongside the current Lung Consultant Clinical Oncology Team. The role will involve clinical commitments in Lung oncology and active involvement in clinical and research activity to develop the group’s interests. The post requires excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to promote best outcomes for patients, relatives, and carers.
The appointee will deliver radiotherapy including SABR and systemic therapy for NSCLC, and will be an active member of the MDT. The Lung Consultant team is supported by 5 ANPs and 8 CNSs, and the post holder will have the opportunity for mentorship and cross-cover across the team.
Responsibilities
* Develop a significant interest in Lung Oncology delivering radiotherapy including SABR and systemic therapy.
* Be an active member of the MDT and contribute to the Lung Oncology service within a collaborative team.
* Deliver all aspects of Radiotherapy including SABR and, where appropriate, deliver systemic therapy for NSCLC.
* Engage in training/mentorship with Nursing, Physics, and Radiographic colleagues; participate in clinical and research activity.
* Participate in opportunities for involvement in technical radiotherapy (including SABR, Protons, and MR Linac) and contribute to research and trial activity.
* Take on leadership, training and management roles where appropriate (e.g., metastatic cord compression lead) and help develop rapid palliative radiotherapy services with the advance practitioner.
* Collaborate with Lung Medical and Clinical Oncology research teams and participate in cross-departmental initiatives.
Person Specification
Attainments
* GMC registration with a license to practice - A. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) / B. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
* RCR Fellowship or equivalent
Experience
* Advanced Trainee Competencies in Lung cancers
Desirable
* Knowledge and experience of advanced imaging modalities and adaptive radiotherapy
* Knowledge of continuing NHS and Royal College Reforms; evidence of impactful service evaluation
Personal Skills
* Is a team player prepared to adapt to changing circumstances; dynamic, capable of decision making, and a motivator
* Confident in ability while aware of limitations; hard-working and enthusiastic
* Leadership and Management course attendance is desirable
