We have an exciting opportunity to join the NIHR NOCRI Collaborations Team, building and managing collaborations across industry, academia, and the NHS to advance health research. The team helps partners access NIHR’s world-class research infrastructure.


About Us

The NIHR, funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, is the UK’s largest funder of health and social care research. It delivers world leading studies that improve health, wellbeing and economic growth with GMG providing critical operational and management support to its funding programs.

This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity for a Senior Research Manager to join the NIHR NOCRI Collaborations Team. This role acts as a key link between the Collaborations Team and the commissioning teams across the NIHR Coordinating Centre, supporting strategic and ad hoc initiatives across the NIHR’s funded infrastructure.

The post holder will coordinate cross NIHR initiatives, including the Multiple Long Term Conditions (MLTC) Collaboration, mental health programmes and Translational Research Collaborations. They will foster collaborations, support research funding processes, provide intelligence and analyses and lead new initiatives, events and strategic activities.

Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of funded projects, monitoring impact, negotiating funding agreements and supporting knowledge dissemination. The role also involves line management of a Portfolio Analyst and maintaining strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will help enhance working practices and contribute to delivering NIHR’s collaborative research agenda, acting as a model of professional excellence across teams.


Required Criteria

* Degree in biomedical, health, or social sciences
* Knowledge of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) architecture
* Experience or awareness of commercially focused research or research commercialisation, including understanding of intellectual property
* Strong people and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to delegate and influence effectively
* Well developed analytical and complex problem solving skills with a solution focused approach
* Proficient in IT applications, incl. Microsoft Office and Google Suite


Desired Criteria

* Experience of working in a research funding environment


Compensation, Benefits & Working Arrangements:

Salary: £48,600 to £51,300 per year

Contract Type: 12 month Fixed Term Contract, Full Time

NB: We offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, flexible working arrangements. This is an office based, hybrid role with an expectation for all employees to attend our offices 1 day each week, this may increase, subject to team requirements.
