Full‑time starting salary normally in the range £33,002 to £35,608 with potential progression to £39,906.
Grade: 6
Part‑time 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week).
Fixed‑term contract up to August 2029.

Background
The School invites applications for an 80% Research Associate position (start date 1 September 2026) to work with a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council–funded project. The contract duration is 3 years. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Prof. Sam Lucas and Prof. Katrien Segaert (co‑PIs) and Dr. Jack Feron (postdoctoral research fellow).
Responsibilities
• Collect questionnaire data, perform 12‑lead ECG screening tests, exercise stress testing, physical function tests and cognitive testing in older adults (≥65 years).
• Administer a supervised exercise intervention program run from the Centre for Movement and Wellbeing, coordinating and supervising exercise sessions over a 12‑month period and collecting data for exercise prescription (e.g., heart rate and blood lactate measures).
• Support other aspects of the project, including neuroimaging data collection (MRI), participant recruitment, data management, organising and running PPIE events, and communications with stakeholders such as Age UK Birmingham.
• Contribute to high‑quality academic publications and public engagement activities.
• Participate in and contribute to public engagement events.
• Promote equality and diversity, acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
Main Duties
* Collect research data: 12‑lead ECG, exercise stress‑testing, physical function tests, questionnaire data and cognitive testing.
* Coordinate and supervise exercise sessions as part of a 12‑month intervention.
* Analyse research data as directed.
* Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications, seminars and posters.
* Provide guidance to staff and students assisting with research.
* Deal with problems that may affect research objectives and deadlines.
* Carry out administrative tasks directly related to research delivery.
* Participate and contribute to public engagement events.
Person Specification
* An MSc in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences / Clinical Exercise Physiology or a related area.
* Practical experience of applying relevant skills and techniques, preferably with CEP‑UK accreditation or equivalent.
* Experience with or interest in research and testing of older adults.
* Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively.
* Ability to access and organise resources successfully.
* Understanding of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and ability to ensure equal treatment and fairness in day‑to‑day activity.
