Overview

Lecturer (Clinical Tutor - DForenPsy) Education and Scholarship. This part time (0.3 FTE) post is available on a fixed term contract from January 2026 for 1 year, on the Forensic Psychology Programme in Clinical Education Development and Research (CEDAR) in Psychology (subject to final approvals).

Salary: The starting salary will be from £43,482 on Grade F per annum pro rata, depending on qualifications and experience. The post may attract a market supplement, in line with Agenda for Change 8a depending on skills and experience.

You will be responsible for the design, development and production of teaching and learning material in relation to the clinical aspect of the programme and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area. You will work with the Clinical Director and Programme Leads to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accord with the Faculty's education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy. You will also contribute directly to foundation teaching in one or more of the discipline areas in the Faculty and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Faculty.


Main duties of the job

Specific Purpose of the job:

* Contribute to the clinical aspects of postgraduate teaching as agreed with the Senior Clinical Tutor / Clinical Lead. The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop specialist teaching in his/her area of clinical/teaching expertise. Given CEDAR's structure, an interest in contributing to teaching outside the programme would also be an advantage.
* Possess a good honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline (at least a 2:1 or equivalent).
* Deliver clinical aspects of the training programme including clinical skills tutorials.
* Act as a point of liaison between the programme team and participating services and stakeholders.
* Ensure effective links between local and regional in line with CEDARS external affairs strategy.
* Problem solving training and service-related implementation challenges at a local level.
* Support with the operational development and sustainability of the programme, particularly in relation to clinical aspects.
* Provide clinical supervision if appropriate.
* Provide clinical skills tutorials within the programme.
* Provide individual tutorials to students.
* Advise and link with services in relation to clinical practice and fitness to practice where applicable.
* Develop the clinical aspects of the training programme, strengthening the work of CEDAR. This could involve undertaking programmes from design to delivery, developing links with relevant workers in the same field, presentations at relevant conferences.

Reporting To: Clinical Director / Clinical Lead / Programme Lead

The above part time (0.3 FTE) post is immediately available until 31/07/2026 on the Forensic Psychology programme in Clinical Education Development and Research (CEDAR) in Psychology.

Main purpose of the job: You will have responsibility for the design, development and production of learning material in relation to the clinical aspect of the programme and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area. You will work with the Clinical Director and Programme Leads to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accord with the Faculty's education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy. You will also contribute directly to foundation teaching in one or more of the discipline areas in the Faculty and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices and clinical placements across the Faculty.

* Conduct start, mid and end of placement reviews for forensic trainees.
* Problem solving training and service-related implementation challenges at a local level.
* Support with the operational development and sustainability of the programme, particularly in relation to clinical aspects. Provide of clinical supervision if appropriate.
* Provide clinical skills tutorials within the programme.
* Provide individual tutorials to students.
* Advise and link with services in relation to clinical practice and fitness to practice where applicable.

Main duties and accountabilities:

1. Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.
2. Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
3. Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
4. Set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.
5. Ensure that module design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the university and Faculty.

Teaching and Learning Support

1. Ensure enhancement and quality assurance of the clinical aspects of the curriculum across the programme and regularly review programme content and materials, updating when required.
2. Support the development and implementation of the Faculty's Education Strategies and contribute to the development of clinical and academic policies across CEDAR in line with University aims and relevant performance indicators.
3. Teach a range of material in relation to clinical skills development, supervision etc.
4. Develop, promote and implement innovative teaching practices, including technology-enhanced learning, particularly in relation to the development of clinical practice.
5. Monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to students as appropriate, including oversight of the needs of students with special requirements and mitgating circumstances.
6. Engage with CEDAR working groups and committees as required.
7. Act as an independent clinical practitioner ensuring continuity with the rest of the curriculum.
8. Undertake training in the supervision of relevant approaches as needed.
9. Work alongside clinical researchers, academic researchers, trainers and clinicians to provide a high-quality programme in relation to supervision and the development of clinical skills.
10. Assessment of clinical competency of trainees with a range of approaches as required.
11. Offer clinical supervision if required.
12. Regularly undertake R&D activity.
13. Provide highly specialised advice concerning care.
14. Co-ordinate supervisor training and events as required.
15. Promote the involvement of people with lived experience in the curriculum.


Person Specification

Experience

* Have experience of teaching, or curriculum development in relevant clinical area (specify as needed).
* Considerable experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist / practitioner with one or more client groups.
* Extensive experience of clinical practice and service settings in relation to the relevant area (specify as needed).
* Experience of having supervised relevant trainees and staff in other disciplines or grades.
* Experience of postgraduate teaching.
* Good range of supervisory experience and evidence of post-qualifying supervisory training.

Qualifications

* Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a doctorate-level training or the necessary equivalent (Forensic Psychologist).
* Good honours degree in psychology or a related discipline (at least a 2:1 or equivalent).
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council if appropriate to core profession and training programme.
* Evidence of accreditation / registration.
* Evidence of commitment and ability to achieve fellow with HEA within 2 years.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Fellow of the HEA.

Other

* Able to communicate complex ideas and to identify potential sources of funding.
* Able to participate in and develop external networks.
* Independent and self-managing working style.
* Knowledge of tertiary education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to engage students.
