Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Advisor within the Estates & Facilities team at Whipps Cross Hospital in East London. Whipps Cross Hospital is part of the Barts Health NHS Trust group of hospitals. Main duties of the job The Fire Safety Advisors acts as a focus for all fire safety matters in the organisation with accountability for fire safety matters reporting up to the hospitals Chief Executive Officer (CEO) via the hospital's Director of Estates and Facilities. Person specification Experience Essential criteria Significant experience of Fire safety management providing expert advice and knowledge to the Trust Board and operational staff across departmental boundaries on fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation and codes of practice and fire safety training. Understand and undertake fire risk assessments within a healthcare environment. Experience of working with Capital Projects team/contractors for new build or refurbishment projects. Understanding of healthcare planning and standards. Skills Essential criteria Ability to carry out fire safety audits and risk assessments. Ability to make judgments and apply provisions of highly complex legislation, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 associated health and safety legislation, NHS HTM 05:01 Firecode documents and other associated fire guidance for the benefit of the Trust. Develop and deliver fire training programmes to all levels of staff members within the Trust. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Excellent computer IT skills and database skills. Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas. Conversant with HTM, HBN, IEE EN and British Standards, Fire code and Encode. Thorough working knowledge of all current legislation, NHS guidance and advice notes. Desirable criteria Understanding of Fire Modelling and Fire Engineering techniques. Qualifications Essential criteria Specialist Fire Safety Courses e.g. Fire Service College or NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management and or relevant Fire Service experience. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers/or relevant professional body. Qualification in Risk Assessment and/or Health and Safety Regulations. Qualified/experienced Training instructor Desirable criteria Current NEBOSH general certificate.
