About The Role
We’re looking for a detail‑oriented and motivated Accounts Receivable Assistant to join our Exchequer Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong financial administration experience who enjoys working with people, problem‑solving, and ensuring that financial systems run smoothly. As an integral member of the Finance Department, you’ll support the effective management of the Council’s Accounts Receivable function from processing invoices to assisting with debt recovery and maintaining accurate customer records. You’ll also be a key point of contact for customers and colleagues, providing excellent service and clear communication at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and update customer account information, ensuring accuracy of contact and banking details.
* Process miscellaneous income requests and issue refunds as required.
* Support debt recovery processes, including direct debit setup, non‑payment reminders, and repayment agreements.
* Respond promptly to customer queries by phone, email, and in person.
* Reconcile accounts and undertake data analysis to support financial reporting.
* Provide advice and support to staff across the Authority on invoicing and debt recovery best practices.
* Prepare statistical and financial data for reports, audits, and Freedom of Information requests.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is organised, customer‑focused, and confident working with financial data and digital systems. You’ll have:
* At least 3 years experience in an Accounts Receivable environment (ideally within a Local Authority).
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* A good understanding of financial controls and procedures.
* Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and system query tools.
* The ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
* A flexible and proactive approach to problem‑solving.
* Welsh language skills are desirable for this post.
