What we need
Dotmatics is seeking an experienced Technical Writer with a strong scientific foundation to join our Product team during an exciting period of innovation. In this role, you will collaborate cross‑functionally to produce documentation that will support several life sciences products for a variety of audiences, including lab scientists, data managers, administrators, and developers. You will play a key role in shaping and improving our online documentation platform.
This role requires an individual who thrives at the intersection of science and software and is passionate about helping users manage complex data in laboratory workflows and translating technical information into clear, concise, and well‑organised content.
In this role you will get to
* Write and edit user, administration, configuration content, as well as release notes and API documentation.
* Translate chemistry/biology workflows and data processes into intuitive content suited for scientists and technical users.
* Collaborate with the Technical Writing team to improve documentation quality standards and processes.
* Identify and implement scalable strategies for efficient content development, delivery, and feedback/measurement.
* Contribute to improving documentation processes, methodologies, styling, and tools.
* Contribute to a healthy, thriving team culture that promotes creativity, inclusivity, collaboration, and data‑driven decision‑making.
* Gain a deep understanding of Dotmatics products and services to create effective, intuitive, and polished documentation that aligns with our capabilities.
* Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and subject matter experts in Product, Engineering, Services, and Customer Support to ensure alignment on requirements and scope.
We are looking for a person who has
5+ years of technical writing experience with at least 2 years of end user software documentation. You have a strong understanding of scientific data management and laboratory workflows (chemistry, biology).
The key skills we are looking for
* Proficiency using XML‑based authoring systems (Paligo or other CCMS tools are a plus), as well as SharePoint, Confluence, SnagIt and other common tech writing tools.
* Fluency in structured authoring with focus on technical communication best practices. You have an eye for consistency, brevity, clarity, and readability.
* Track record in successfully producing technical documentation for emerging products in a fast‑paced environment.
* Experience with content delivery with various types of documentation, across multiple products and versions, with effective search capabilities.
* Experience working within an Agile software development lifecycle.
* Working knowledge of documentation delivery practices and cloud‑based web hosting platforms (for example, AWS).
* Excellent research and communication skills, especially in translating complex scientific and technical concepts for various audiences.
* Strong problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to apply technical solutions to operational challenges.
* Adaptability and a growth mindset with the ability to self‑organize and prioritize under pressure.
* Collaborative working style, driving alignment across functions.
* Focus on iterative progress and ownership.
Nice to have
* Experience supporting API and developer documentation.
* Degree in chemistry, biology or other life sciences.
