Job OverviewThis job represents an exciting opportunity to lead, manage and shape the expanding Clinical Psychology service to Paediatric Haematology. You will have the opportunity to apply your considerable experience and expertise to the delivery and development of this extremely specialist service that will also now be providing ground-breaking and innovative treatments in Gene therapy. As well as leading this service you will be jointly leading the highly respected Paediatric Psychology service to Imperial College Healthcare within West London Children’s Healthcare. We are looking for practitioners who can work confidently and adaptively in a demanding setting alongside multidisciplinary teams and are passionate about leading the development of psychological therapy pathways within this part of our service.Main duties of the jobTo lead, manage, plan and ensure the systematic provision of a high quality psychological service to children and young people (C&YP) seen within the Clinical Psychology Service to Paediatric Haematology at Imperial College Healthcare and to jointly lead the Paediatric Psychology service to Imperial College Healthcare. To provide specialist supervision and support for the psychological assessment and intervention provided by Clinical Psychologists, Trainees and Assistants working within the Paediatric Psychology Service at Imperial College Healthcare as well as to other Paediatric Psychologists working across CNWL. To find out more about working in CAMHS please CLICK HERE for one of our CAMHS video.Working for our organisationThe Central and North West London NHS Trust (CNWL) is responsible for the provision of Paediatric Psychology services to a number of acute hospitals across central and northwest London, as well as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to the populations of Brent, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. Highly specialist services are also provided to other Trusts and Agencies in a wider regional catchment area. The paediatric psychology service at Imperial and across CNWL works collaboratively with children and their networks harnessing their strengths and resources to overcome the challenges that health and social inequalities can bring. We encourage creative ways of working which place the young person's identity and development at the heart of their health journey. Within the wider CNWL Paediatric Psychology Service there are regular opportunities to link with the psychologists working across other sites both informally and formally for CPD and peer support. The CNWL Paediatric Psychology Service meets monthly for business, journal and research presentations, as well as clinical and skill sharing.Detailed Job Description And Main ResponsibilitiesA detailed job description and full list of main responsibilities is provided in the attached documents.Person specificationTraining & QualificationsEssential criteriaPost-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist, domain of clinical psychology.Desirable criteriaPre or post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.Attendance at a supervisor’s training event.Training related to specialist knowledge of assessment and intervention relating to CYP with health conditions and their families.ExperienceEssential criteriaAssessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with significant experience of working within a paediatric psychology service.Experience of working with a variety CYP and their parents presenting with a variety of physical health conditions.Experience of teaching, training, professional and clinical supervision of pre-qualified & qualified clinical psychology staff.Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for children and young people’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co‑ordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.Extensive experience of conducting cognitive and psychometric assessments of C&YP with physical health difficulties.Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.Desirable criteriaExperience in a managerial/leadership role in a paediatric psychology service. Experience of supporting CYP and family in preparation for transition to services for adults with a health condition.Experience of representing the profession in local policy forums.Experience of working across a range of clinical settings and knowledge of the key interface issues with other CAMHS services.Experience of managing budgets.Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty.Knowledge And SkillsEssential criteriaSkills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non professional groups.Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and required by HCPC.Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of cognitive and psychometric assessment of C&YP.Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies.Desirable criteriaHighly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in working with specific groups.OtherEssential criteriaAbility to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers & staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.Ability to develop and use complex multi‑media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.Ability to articulate and interpret clearly the role of the profession of clinical psychology or counselling psychology based upon a good understanding of the framework of government and national professional policy.Desirable criteriaRecord of having published in either peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.
