Access Management Officer

The closing date is 10 December 2025

This role is to provide an efficient and effective account management service to end users, including processing of access applications, and troubleshooting access related issues.

This role requires close liaison with System managers regarding the access granted on their systems and with regard to streamlining the processes involved.

The post holder will also be required to work as a Registration Authority Agent granting access to national NHS applications. Duties include supervision of junior staff as and when required to meet peaks in demand for access changes.

Please note that this advertised vacancy does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa and therefore HUTH would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role.

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks Required of the Post Holder

The Post Holder will be responsible for managing and controlling access to multiple systems, including CRS systems, and acting as a Registration Authority Agent for national NHS applications.

They will work closely with system administrators to improve the access allocation process and ensure efficient access management. Additionally, the role involves liaising proactively with stakeholders, maintaining access management documentation, and supervising junior staff.

The Post Holder will also assist in the development and improvement of access management processes, provide guidance to users, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to data protection and security.

Person Specification


Education & Qualifications

* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent relevant experience.
* IT‑related qualification or demonstrable experience in an IT support or access management role
* A relevant qualification in IT, Information Security, or a related field.
* Certification or formal training in access management systems or IT security (e.g., CISSP, CompTIA Security+).


Knowledge, Training & Experience

* Previous experience working in an access management, system support, or IT service desk environment.
* Experience in managing user access rights, password management, and access control processes.
* Demonstrable experience of working with multiple systems, ensuring compliance with access policies and procedures.
* Previous experience of supervising or mentoring junior staff in a team setting, especially during periods of high demand.
* Experience in using incident tracking systems and reporting on access issues, including security breaches.
* Strong understanding of access management principles and practices, including user access control, password management, and data protection.
* Familiarity with NHS applications and systems, including the ability to act as a Registration Authority Agent for national NHS applications.
* A solid understanding of data protection laws and information security protocols, including GDPR and the Computer Misuse Act.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and IT systems for access management (e.g., identity management systems, helpdesk tools).
* Excellent attention to detail, with a strong ability to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with guidelines and timeframes.
* Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to analyse access issues and provide effective solutions.
* Experience working in an NHS or healthcare environment, specifically within a People or HR services team.
* Experience in the use of systems such as NHS Identity or Smartcard management systems.
* Experience in auditing, reporting, and maintaining documentation for compliance with industry standards and regulations.
* Experience in using system administration tools to manage access rights, security groups, and user permissions across multiple platforms.
* Understanding of NHS Digital systems and processes, including national applications such as the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system.


Communication & Interpersonal Skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non‑technical users.
* Ability to provide guidance and training to junior staff, ensuring they understand access management processes and procedures.
* Strong customer service skills with the ability to manage user expectations and handle inquiries professionally.
* Confidence in liaising with stakeholders, system administrators, and other departments to resolve access‑related issues and improve processes.
* Ability to negotiate and manage conflicting priorities within a busy environment.

* Ability to work flexibly to accommodate peak periods, including occasional out‑of‑hours work when required.
* Willingness to travel to other sites if necessary to support the function.
* Ability to work in an open‑plan office environment and handle unplanned interruptions.
