Detention Custody Officer (DCO) – Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre
MITIE GROUP PLC, Strathaven, South Lanarkshire. Salary: £27,930 – £30,555 per annum (dependent on skills and responsibilities).
Employment Details
* Full time, permanent position.
* Onsite working.
* 40 hours per week with capped overtime available.
* 24/7 service using a 4‑on / 4‑off rolling shift pattern covering both day and night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
As a Detention Custody Officer, you will manage the day‑to‑day needs of residents, ensuring their safety, security, and welfare while meeting regulatory requirements. Your role includes:
* Providing end‑to‑end management of residents’ needs throughout the 24‑hour service.
* Maintaining a secure and healthy environment for residents and staff.
* Supporting residents in understanding their case outcomes and facilitating activities that promote well‑being.
* Engaging with stakeholders such as the Home Office and medical service partners.
* Promoting positive behaviour and building supportive staff‑resident relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
* UK citizen, Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain, or EEA citizen.
* Valid and current passport with no restrictions on UK stay.
* Continuous residence in the UK for the past 5 years, with no single overseas stay longer than three months.
* Full UK manual driving licence, no ban or disqualification in the last 5 years.
* Not bankrupt and able to undergo Enhanced DBS and Counter‑Terrorist vetting.
* Previous experience dealing sensitively with vulnerable people is an advantage but not required; extensive training will be provided.
