An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our team as a Senior Staff Nurse in the Pre Assessment team at The Wilmslow Hospital.

You will work closely with our Surgeons and Consultant Anaesthetists to ensure patients are prepared for surgery. The role will require the suitable candidate to be competent in taking patient medical history, assessing the patient's suitability for surgery and undertaking pre-operative tests for all our patients.
You will undertake pre-operative tests for all our patients and work as a key part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Essential skills key to this role are implementing and maintaining high clinical standards whilst caring for patients, enhancing staff personal development, providing guidance, support and expertise to clinical staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. The clinical Pre-Assessment of patients from multiple surgical specialities via face to face or telephone, liaising with the Consultant Surgeons and Consultant Anaesthetists
2. Ability to take blood samples and perform ECG’s
3. Providing a high-quality nursing care, health promotion, and education to all patients attending the Pre-Assessment clinic
4. Lead on the development and implementation of the Pre-Operative Assessment service
5. To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions
6. Assist in organisation of clinics to ensure smooth, efficient operations
7. Identify complex care patients and refer when appropriate for MDT review
8. Liaise with consultants, ward and the multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth patient journey
9. To maintain accurate records of patient care & charged keyed on to Expanse
10. Organise tests and appointments both within and outside the hospital
11. Provide patients with information regarding the management of their condition
12. Oversee the Pre-Assessment nursing team, supporting professional development and performance
13. Provide education and mentor junior staff, students and new team members
14. Investigate and report clinical incidents or near-misses, promote a culture of safety
15. Plan staffing rota to ensure adequate clinic coverage and appropriate skill mix
16. Ensure supply are available within acceptable PAR level and equipment are maintained in good working condition
17. Collect and analyse patient data to support service development and reporting

What you’ll bring:
18. NMC Registered
19. Significant experience in Pre-Operative Assessment, with demonstrated proficiency in conducting thorough assessments and developing care plans essential
20. Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anaesthesia, and perioperative care
21. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
22. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple patient assessments and documentation.
23. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
24. Immediate Life Support (ILS)
25. Understanding of Safeguarding issues and escalation processes
26. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
27. Competent with computers and able to use clinical systems
