Job Summary
Are you looking for a workplace where you're welcomed each day by supportive and friendly colleagues? You will join our Family Support Team as a Counsellor and provide holistic and therapeutic support to children and young people under the care of Bluebell Wood, as well as family members experiencing anticipatory grief or bereavement. Our bereavement offer extends to families referred to us via external partnerships where children and young people have died suddenly and unexpectedly. Responsibilities include delivering counselling that aligns with ethical and professional standards, and supporting the team to help families navigate grief and bereavement themes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional, competent, and ethical counselling in line with BACP requirements.
* Deliver robust service delivery under the direction of the Family Wellbeing and Counselling Coordinator.
* Provide data and reports on services; maintain records in confidence and in line with the Data Protection Act 1998 and GDPR.
* Seek regular clinical supervision and continue lifelong professional learning.
* Support colleagues in determining the appropriate level of support and signpost or refer where necessary.
* Facilitate therapy sessions in person or remotely according to client need; hold a balanced caseload.
* Work autonomously as a competent practitioner within policies and procedures and maintain BACP accreditation or equivalent.
What you will do (Therapy and Service Delivery)
* Provide data and reports on services as required; maintain accurate notes and appointment schedules using relevant systems; monitor attendance and cancellations.
* Ensure safeguarding and escalate concerns to the appropriate management or Safeguarding Lead when necessary.
* Signpost to appropriate services and collaborate with other professionals and agencies to support client needs.
* Maintain a professional level of clinical practice, participate in monthly supervision, and engage in CPD aligned with BACP requirements.
* Support the psychology therapies team to guide Family Support and hospice colleagues on trauma, bereavement, and anticipatory grief, and provide training where necessary (where appropriate).
Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified Counsellor registered with BACP with at least 2 years post-qualification experience.
* Meets the BACP competencies to work with children, young people and adults.
* Experience of working with children and families who have complex needs and offering tailored support packages.
* Experience providing bereavement counselling to children is desirable.
Skills and Knowledge
* IT literate with ability to use Microsoft Office and data reporting tools.
* Ability to analyse data and produce performance reports.
* Knowledge and application of current professional theory and practice in counselling.
* Desirable: knowledge of assessing child and young adult support needs in diverse populations.
General and Professional Requirements
* Fully committed to the aims and objectives of Bluebell Wood Hospice; accountable for own actions and development.
* Willing and able to travel to meet the needs of children, young people and families; car driver with access to a vehicle is desirable.
* Legally entitled to work in this country; current UK professional registration.
* Experience of safeguarding and responding to safeguarding concerns as required.
