Bassetlaw District Council is looking for an experienced Senior Planning Officer at an exciting time of change. With Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) on the horizon and a transformation programme underway, this is a fantastic opportunity to shape how our services evolve for the future.
As a key member of the Development Management team, you will play a leading role in delivering high‑quality planning outcomes across the district. You will manage a varied caseload of complex and major planning applications, pre‑applications and appeals, supporting the delivery of key developments and infrastructure that benefit our communities.
You will work collaboratively with developers, elected members, residents and stakeholders, negotiating solutions that maximise community benefit while ensuring robust and sound planning decisions. The role also includes representing the Council at Planning Committee hearings and public inquiries, acting as a trusted professional voice for the authority.
About You
You will be an experienced and confident planning professional with a strong track record in development management.
* A degree in planning (or equivalent) and eligibility for RTPI membership
* Experience handling complex and major planning applications and negotiations
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and present at committee or appeal
* A strong understanding of planning legislation, policy and procedures
* The ability to build effective working relationships with developers, stakeholders and local communities
You will also be motivated to support continuous improvement, contribute to service transformation, and help shape a high‑performing, forward‑thinking planning service.
