Lead CNC Turner
We are seeking an experienced Lead CNC Turner to take responsibility for the turning section within our clients machine shop. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to support workflow, quality, and continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
Set, operate, and programme CNC lathes (including Y-axis, sliding head, sub-spindle, standard CNC, and manual machines where required)
Interpret detailed engineering drawings and machine to tight tolerances
Take ownership of job setup, tooling selection, and process optimisation
Ensure quality standards through in-process inspection and final checks
Lead the turning section to meet production targets and delivery deadlines
Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
Liaise with Production Planning to optimise job sequencing
Maintain tooling, equipment, and housekeeping standards
Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience as a CNC Turner within a precision engineering environment
Strong experience setting and operating CNC lathes (Fanuc, Haas, or similar controls advantageous)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
Solid understanding of tooling, materials, and machining processes
Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing desirable
Previous leadership or mentoring experience advantageous
Ideally with offline programming experience with Fusion 360 (not essential)
