A leading environmental consultancy with an established presence across Scotland is looking to recruit an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to support a growing portfolio of projects.
The organisation is well-regarded for delivering pragmatic, high-quality ecological advice across sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, and development.
Your new role
You will take on a key site-based role, ensuring that ecological considerations are effectively implemented throughout the construction phase of projects. Acting as the on-site ecological specialist, you will work closely with contractors and project teams to ensure fullpliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and agreed mitigation strategies.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys field-based work and providing practical, solutions-focused advice in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Acting as the Ecological Clerk of Works on construction and infrastructure sites
2. Monitoring works to ensurepliance with ecological legislation, licences, and planning conditions.
3. Delivering toolbox talks and providing on-site guidance to contractors
4. Supervising works in sensitive ecological areas, including protected species mitigation
5. Recording site activities and producing clear, concisepliance reports
6. Building strong working relationships with site teams and stakeholders
7. Assisting with resolving ecological issues in a practical and timely manner
What you'll need to succeed
8. A degree in ecology or a related field
9. Experience in an ECoW or similar site-based ecological role
10. Good knowledge of UK and Scottish wildlife legislation and best practice guidance
11. Experience working alongside construction teams
12. Strongmunication skills and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
13. Flexibility to travel and work on-site across Scotland
14. Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
15. Protected species licences
16. Membership of a relevant professional body ( CIEEM)
17. Experience on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects
18. CSCS card or other relevant health & safety qualifications
