Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Head of Retail and Trading the post holder will work both autonomously and as part of the retail team, delivering a core health and safety support service whilst also providing support to employees and other managers in their efforts to maintain a safe workplace.

Job responsibilities
To oversee the operational management of the health and safety elements in the retail business
Maintain safety information and promote safety compliance by shaping new protocols and strengthening and improving existing health and safety approaches
To oversee the health and safety compliance and conformance such as safe practices at work, gas and electrical safety, legionella, asbestos management plans, emergency lighting, fire management and any other requirements as required
To co-ordinate the recording of matters relating to health and safety, including risk assessments, collating and monitoring evidence of compliance and conformance (including the buildings matrix), ensuring alignment with the existing Governance processes
Compile statistics on matters relating to health and safety analysing their causes and making recommendations to management accordingly
To support the management of internal and external audits.
To undertake shop visits as required
To ensure all actions arising from recommendations resulting from audits and other activities are assigned to relevant person and completed, tracking and reporting on progress as required
To support the management to respond to external inspections and regulatory requests as required (but not to lead them)
To support the coordination of all statutory safety inspections and / or management processes as needed
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in a compliance, health and safety, or site management role
* Experience of working with UK H&S standards/regulations
* 3 years plus experience in a similar role
* Experience of working within a Health and Safety role
Knowledge and Skills
* Sound knowledge of Health and safety legislation
* Strong IT skills especially Excel / database
* Ability to maintain excellent working relationships and rapport with colleagues
* To maintain records accurately and to an excellent level of detail
* Operational management
* Auditing / compliance
* Site management
Qualifications
* GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
* IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate or a Health and safety, auditing or other relevant qualification (including vocationally acquired CPD)
* Management Level 4 (GCGI) or equivalent, auditing experience, understanding of health and safety
